Letter from Head – Jim Bowyer

Dear Parent/carer Further to my letter of 6th July, we have now finalised the provision that we will be able to offer within current government. guidelines in September. Classes Teaching will start on site at Falkland Road on 7th September. All classes students will be contacted by a member of the inclusion team on Wednesday 2nd, Thursday 3rd or Friday 4th to go through the specific procedures that we will have to follow with regards to physical distancing and hygiene when we are on the base. As we do not have space to maintain government guidelines during break times, we will be adapting the timetable so that there is no whole school break during the day. Students will be taking breaks from learning in classrooms, these will be planned to fit in with learning by the class teacher. Regular toilet breaks will also be included in the lessons. The timetable will be almost identical to that we have followed since 1st June. We will not be able to run activities so lessons will fill this time in the timetable. The new timings for the day will be: Period 1. 09:30 – 10:20 Period 2. 10:20 – 11:10 Period 3. 11:10 – 12:00 Period 4. 12:00 – 12:50 This will mean that most students will go home at 12:50. For those yr10 & yr11 students attending afternoon classes these will run from 12:50 – 14:30. Other changes that we will make are: We will not be providing food to students; Each student will need to keep and use their own equipment (pen, pencil, ruler) Students can bring their own pencil case to lessons if they want to. We will provide a pen, pencil & ruler to students who do not bring their own. Thank you for your continued patience, should the Covid 19 infection rate change between now and 7th September and government guidance change we will send an update via our social media sites and student gmail accounts. We will be reviewing our plan during September and will let students and parents know in advance of any changes that we make (e.g. reintroducing whole school break). I hope you are able to enjoy the break your children have from school in July & August. If you have any questions please contact me via email or message the Bristol Hospital Education Service Facebook group. Yours faithfully, Jim Bowyer Head BHES & The Meriton jim.bowyer@bristol-schools.uk
