Students with an Education Health and Care Plan (EHCP) will be taught by BHES and The Meriton. In the children’s hospital the service has a PMLD specialist teacher who prioritises PMLD students.
In addition we work in partnership with health care staff to provide specific strategies for schools to use in cases where a student will have new barriers to learning when they are discharged from hospital.
We have a Special Educational Needs Co-Ordinator (SENCO) who monitors the progress and provision for students with EHCPs across the service. The SENCO provides advice and support to staff in all parts of the service.
If a student with an EHCP is referred to BHES, we will provide education to them once the provision has been agreed with their school. In all cases it is expected that BHES provision will be a short term intervention.
In common with all students, individual reviews are held on a termly basis.*
* In some cases student reviews may be held to a different schedule depending on their specific situation.
